Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition believed to be caused by an overly active immune system causing flaking skin and red patches. It can be treated with medication, but Young Living psoriasis essential oils can offer relief also.
Young Living psoriasis oil recommendations are as follows:
(1) Helichrysum Oil
This oil is native to the Mediterranean region and has been used for its medicinal properties for thousands of years in Turkey, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Bosnia. Helichrysum is an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic oil that is believed to be one of the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory remedies, and its skin-soothing properties can provide relief to psoriasis patients. To use, combine the helichrysum oil with a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil and apply directly to the affected areas of the skin.
(2) Tea Tree Oil (TTO)
This oil is native to Australia and possesses powerful antibacterial properties. Psoriasis patients can use it to protect against infections of the skin that can occur from severe itching. It can be combined with a carrier oil and applied directly to the skin, or you can make lotion or soap by mixing one teaspoon of carrier oil, five drops of TTO, and five drops of lavender.
(3) Chamomile Oil
Sometimes called “herbal aspirin,” chamomile oil originated in Western Europe and Northern Africa but is now grown throughout the world. Besides its anti-inflammatory qualities, chamomile penetrates into the deepest layers of the skin and stimulates the production of healthy white blood cells. Psoriasis patients can make a homemade bubble bath recipe to ease skin irritation. The bubble bath contains light almond oil, an egg white, honey, liquid Castile soap, chamomile oil, and lavender oil.
(4) Sandalwood Oil
with its signature woodsy scent, reduces skin inflammation and has natural properties that moisturize the skin. The sandalwood produced in India is considered the highest quality in the world, and sandalwood trees must grow for between 40 and 80 years prior to harvesting the roots to get the most potent and effective sandalwood oil. Apply sandalwood oil only after mixing it with a carrier oil directly onto the affected skin areas.
(5) Thyme Oil
Originated in Southern Europe and is well known in its dried state as an herb to be added to food. Thyme oil has antiseptic properties that can heal the redness and sores associated with psoriasis. Thyme oil must be diluted with a carrier oil before applying it to the skin.
(6) Rosemary Oil
Another that is well known as an herb in its dried state is rosemary. Rosemary oil has been used for thousands of years and is native to the Mediterranean. Rosemary oil can fortify the skin and protect against damage. Dilute with a carrier oil before applying it to the skin.
These Young Living oils have aromatic and healing properties that have helped psoriasis patients, but it is important to consult a doctor or do extensive research before using any of them if you are pregnant or have other preexisting conditions.
