Garlic for Acne

One of the things that you might not consider is garlic for acne. However, the food has plenty of benefits if used correctly, and can also help with other skin issues including rashes and eczema.

Healing Properties of Garlic for Acne

A benefit of garlic is that it can work to treat skin conditions internally and externally. Garlic has antibacterial properties that can aid in treating acne along with proper cleaning with soap and warm water. Another benefit of garlic is that it has antiviral properties that can be used with other products to treat viruses.

Cleansing Your Face

Before you use garlic on your face, you need to wash your skin with warm water. Gently rub your face instead of scrubbing as you don't want to cause further irritation to occur. Pat your skin dry with a cloth so that your face isn't wet when you use the garlic.

Preparing Your Garlic

You want to use a fresh piece of garlic instead of garlic powder or salt. After removing the exterior of the garlic clove, you want to grate it until it's in fine pieces. You don't want to use large clumps of garlic as you won't be able to get them on your face as easily so that the natural moisture from the food can absorb into your skin. Once you have the garlic grated, you'll mix it with about two tablespoons of warm water. The warm water will bring out the nutrients in the clove.

Using The Garlic for Acne

Place a small amount of the garlic and water mixture on your fingers so that you can massage it onto your face. You only need to leave it on your face for a few minutes before you rinse with warm water. You usually don't need to use soap, but if you don't like the smell of the garlic, then you can use a mild soap to get rid of the scent. However, don't scrub your skin as you're going to defeat the purpose of using the garlic.

Frequency

You only need to use garlic on your face a few times a week to see the benefits that it can offer. Combine the garlic with two teaspoons of olive oil and a few drops of honey to make a mask that you can put on your face for about 20 minutes. This is similar to the face masks that you see in stores that are peeled or washed off. You might need to adjust the amount of garlic that you use in the mask if it begins burning your skin. An option is to leave the garlic mixture in the refrigerator to get it cool before applying it to your face.
