Recipes for Homemade Face Masks for Acne
Everyday Aloe Mask
- 1 Tbsp pure chilled aloe vera gel (straight from a plant is best)
- 2 drops vitamin E oil
Mix the ingredients together thoroughly and apply to a clean, dry face. Leave the mask on for as long as you can. It’s best to do at night, because wearing the mixture under make-up might not work well. It’s gentle and mild enough to leave on all night. The aloe vera helps soothe inflammation and the vitamin E oil can help fade acne marks over time.
Turmeric Anti-Inflammatory Mask
- 1 Tbsp water
- 1/2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (with the mother)
- 1 tsp turmeric
Stir the ingredients well and begin applying to clean skin. It will probably be pretty watery, so you might need to apply it in layers with a cotton ball. Some studies have found pure apple cider vinegar to be very effective at calming acne and reducing scarring, although it’s unknown exactly why. It’s very important to rmember to always mix vinegar with water, because applying straight vinegar can be very irritating. Turmeric also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help calm pimples. Do be aware though that turmeric can temporarily leave a slightly yellow stain on fair skin, so it’s best to apply this mask at night in order to give the color time to fade.
Soothing Green Tea and Oatmeal Mask
- 2 Tbsp oats
- 1 tbsp green or chamomile tea
- 2 drops tea tree oil
Pour the green or chamomile tea into the oats and let them soak for about two minutes. Next, add in one to two drops of tea tree oil and mix thoroughly. Apply the mixture to your clean face and let sit for about 20 minutes. Oatmeal has been shown to help other skin conditions such as ecxzema, so many people believe it can help soothe redness and irritation from acne too. Green tea has antioxidant properties that can help with aging and uneven texture, and tea tree oil helps reduce the size of pimples.
Exfoliating Enzyme Mask
- 1/4 cup raw papaya
- 1/4 cup raw avocado
- 3 Tbsp hot water
Pour all the ingredients into a blender and mix until they form a smooth paste. Check that the temperature is safe for your skin before applying the mask. Smooth it over your face and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Papaya and avocado both contain enzymes that can help break down dead skin cells and unclog pores. Although they are both mild ingredients, avoid using this mask more than two times per week. For best results, steam your face for five minutes before applying the mask to open your pores.
