7 Principles That Reverse and Prevent Necklines

We’re all very familiar with the commercials on television and magazines telling us to use their product to get rid of all the wrinkles, lines, and signs of aging on our faces.

Other depictions such as the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman even showed the queen bathing in milk to retain her youthful appearance. We may not go as far as the evil queen in these films, but we can definitely relate to their wishes of staying wrinkle-free.

However, does it ever cross your mind that we give all the attention on keeping our faces smooth but not on our necks? Just imagine a woman with smooth and wrinkle-free skin, but when you look at her neck, it’s sagging and full of lines.

You may have also heard of the saying that people can tell how old you are through your neck. What if you’re still twenty-two years old, but people already think you’re thirty-five because you have necklines?

There’s an apparent reason for necklines and sagging skin, and that’s gravity. This is even supported by Dr. Ryan Neinstein, M.D., one of NYC Surgical Associates’ plastic surgeons. However, he also states that exposure to the sun and not giving it the attention it needs when you’re applying sunscreen adds to its causes.

Dr. Robert Anolik, M.D., a dermatologist from the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York also has the same opinion. Other than that, he also adds to the list excessive neck motions and the phenomenon called “tech neck” which is you spending most of your time looking down on your smartphone.

Furthermore, we got other reasons that are self-explanatory such as excess fat, unhealthy diet, genetics, bad posture, and let’s face it, aging. The skin on our necks is also thinner which makes it more vulnerable to harmful factors.

This brings us to an important reminder about our beauty regime: that you should provide as much attention to your necks when wanting to stay smooth and youthful.

Let’s start this list with the cheapest and the most doable solution. Neck and head exercises have been found to be effective in preventing and keeping those lines from getting worse. However, you have to remember to do them every day so that it really gives you positive results. These exercises involve rotating your head clockwise and counterclockwise, lifting your head up the ceiling, and stretching your lower jaw.

2. Staying Hydrated

Lack of hydration in our bodies is one of the biggest culprits of a saggy neck and prominent lines. The basic solution to this is to always drink at least eight glasses of water a day so that both the inside and outside of your body gets its required moisture.

3.Protect It From The Sun

Yes, we need our daily dose of vitamin D from the sun. However, when exposure to the sun becomes too much, it actually becomes harmful to our skin. When we always put our skin under the rays of the sun, the heat and the ultraviolet rays can cause damage to our skin, making it lose its moisture, grow freckles, and develop lines.

Since our necks’ skin is thinner too, it’s more vulnerable to the sun’s harmful rays. Thus, it’s crucial for you to use sunscreen and lotion with SPF 30 or higher. Apart from that, wear clothes that will protect your skin and always bring a hat or an umbrella if you know you’ll be under the sun for a long time.

4. Don’t Look Down On Your Smartphone

Let’s all face the truth: we can never put down our smartphones or live without it for a day. However, remember the “tech neck” issue where looking down on our phones for long periods of time contributes to the lines on our necks.

Since it’s pretty impossible to avoid social media and our smartphones, the best answer to this is to keep our smartphones at eye level when we’re browsing through social media. This may sound difficult (and even ridiculous to do), but if you get used to it, you’d probably never notice the difference. Plus, you get fewer lines on your neck.

5.Use Lotion or Cream That Firms The Skin

What is a firming lotion or cream and what’s in it that will help your neck lose all those lines? It’s the presence of vitamins A and E. These two keeps your neck and your skin protected against ultraviolet rays, and it also slows signs of aging. Furthermore, vitamin A promotes cell regeneration of the skin and vitamin E is an antioxidant which helps your skin stay moisturized.

6.Apply Your Facial Anti-Aging Creams On Your Neck

If you already have a beauty routine for your face that you religiously follow day and night, apply it to your neck too to even out its process. Remember what we said about having a smooth and youthful face but a wrinkly neck? That’s a big no-no.

7. Eat Healthier

Eating fast food, junk food, and drinking sugary drinks is good. However, they can make you gain weight, and when you gain weight, the excess fat spreads out to the rest of your body and then your neck.
